Javier Murcia is a Spanish sculptor based in Wellington, New Zealand. Born in 1981, he studied fine arts and anatomy in the Canary Islands before building his practice across Europe — working in Copenhagen on significant private collections and completing public commissions in Spain.

He arrived in New Zealand in 2013, where a chance meeting with Sir Richard Taylor led to a lasting patronage and a deeper commitment to his personal work. Over the years his practice has moved through several bodies of work, including the Eidos series shown in Europe and New York, and more recently the MaTi series — large-scale wall sculptures that combine texture, material, and integrated light.

Alongside his studio practice he runs Workshopsculoting.com, teaching sculpture with a focus on the human figure.
