“La loca de San Blas”

14 x 65 x 54 cm
Maquette for bronze casting.

A symbol of eternal expectations, of unfailing innocence. An evocative vision of the woman behind the legend (who many believe to be true). Rebeca Mendez lost her husband when she was young. It is said that he walked into the sea to never be seen again. She refused to believe he would not come back and every day she would visit the harbour of San Blas expecting to find him again. She died last year in Nyarit, Mexico.

I was commissioned to make a 4m.version of this piece by Sir Richard Taylor for his private collection in Wellington, New Zealand, in 2014.  Down here you have anatomy study and picture of the sculpture with maquette.
