“Ballet Dancer”

27 x 20 x 62 cm
Maquette for bronze casting.

“The Ballet Dancer” emerged with the challenge of doing an academic study of the natural. Academic studies are excellent learning tools. However, from my point of view is that we need to play with media, with the material, with the anatomy and ideas and from this the unexpected, the audacious arises. It could be said that we are getting stuck in pure technique but this is not true. Technique does imply charisma and does not give life to the sculpture. I work together with model Emma Coppersmith to carry out this exercise. Even though the result is very different from what even I was expecting, I am happy to have achieved a balance between the repulsive and the attractive.
